The Freebie centers on Darren (Shepard) and Annie (Aselton), a young married couple with an enviable relationship built on love trust and communication. 怎么说呢，陀螺拍非幻想类题材的电影的成功率与他能否克制住自己的恶趣味正相关。如果马戏团的部分稍稍克制些，成片会好很多。
三星半。是边缘人乡巴佬对美国梦的消解，无处不在的性格侧写和土法精神分析透示着上世纪40年代的美国人困在初始的父权制资本主义里，他们中的多数会用一生去疗伤，投射到电影里就是一个又一个不惜欺骗自己的“可怜人”，所以不光是男主角斯坦用存在主义消解美国梦，一般人也在这样的体系里自欺欺人。技术层面还是抓人的，前一小时的马戏团像是陀螺的个人趣味秀，优秀的美术和摄影创造出一个残酷又美丽的嘉年华。但是也拖慢了电影的节奏，甚至出现了很多无用角色，这也造成了虚假高潮和无用伏笔的问题，不过最后更改了原著结局，让电影“noir性”十足的同时，也告别了过去那种天真到有些不切实际的男女关系，也算没有白翻拍。
原版的Noir荡然无存，细枝末节只是点到为止，只是在道具上认出了陀螺。
整体是好看的，也是舒适的。如果喜欢水形物语，就很大可能喜欢玉面情魔。影调质感一如既往还是陀螺的那股味儿，只是不知道毫无现代反思的翻拍意义是陀螺的童心未泯，还是自我风格的自我致敬？

这么个阵容拼凑这么个东西其实，反而冲淡了故事的表现力，150分钟的片长也没什么必要。
没看过原版，但两个半小时的时长太拖沓！开头悬念，男主放火烧尸，中间回忆几度闪回，尽管有因有果，可男主性格有着说不出的别扭，感觉是剧本强行让他走向geek之路。《卡罗尔》两位女主几乎零互动！啊！宣传照骗人！

我还挺喜欢片子的30-40s的调调，虽然剧情也跟当年的电影一样简单直接，但过渡和起承转合都足够吸引我继续看下去。服化道太赞了，各种马戏团怪物怪咖也看得出陀螺玩得很开心

讲了一个贪婪和欺骗的故事。和蜘蛛侠一样2个半小时，但是观影途中不停地觉得长，同样时长的古奇，豆瓣短评感叹太长的却不多(虽然我也同样觉得太长了)，想必是片子节奏出了问题。令人毛骨悚然的结尾，加上没开暖气的amc10，真是令人直冒冷汗，感到恐怖（为坐地铁跑那么远过去4:30-8:20感到不值）。
