The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 还是比较传统的故事，长辈相对是保守的，孩子是相对叛逆自由的。但现在的长辈曾经也是孩子，现在的孩子以后也是长辈。而本片让人印象最深的，莫过于妈妈了，她同时兼具了这两个身份，当最后美玲在竹林里安慰妈妈的时候，真是很感动啊
很遗憾我没能达到你的期待，但对此我并不抱歉，因为我才是自己生活的主角。没有人生来完美无瑕，正是那一块不完美的碎片构成了每个人真实而独一无二的生活。和那只毛茸可爱的红熊猫一起生活下去吧，只要身边有爱，未来就有光明。

东方家族观和西方自由观的碰撞。最后全家变熊猫那段太有意思了。
这个妈妈的大垫肩外套也太九十年代了，欧美华人的形象还停在那个时候。华人的旗袍形象这种已经在大陆被淘汰的东西还不停地出现在欧美主流媒体形象上。这个水平在皮克斯作品里真的不那么好
单独看Asian American的故事还是可以的，但是故事本身还是个皮克斯经典故事内核套了个异域文化壳子的电影……没啥新意也没有很感人。。

很喜欢这个设定，把叛逆期变成一个实体来比喻真的很有新意。通常pixar disney的电影都是老少皆宜，大人也可以enjoy，但是这部有几个镜头有点太过青少。总体很喜欢，对asian family诠释的很到位了。
居然是个话剧电影。悟了，只有鸭才有耐心去懂一个女人。
太萌了太萌了，前半截节奏稍微有一点慢导致我看睡着了（也因为最近感冒）。。本来觉得4星，看完结尾决定给五星
imdb的差评让我get到一部以十三岁青春期女孩为主的合家欢电影得让多少封建人/自由人不爽：）
中国式家长，很可怕
太好笑了，我觉得这是我几年你看过最好笑的电影，因为和我儿子的奶奶一起看的，所以看的台湾国语版，但一样很棒，我想这部电影留着，等我儿子大点了，给他看，太可爱了，而且主题非常棒。
卡通片想摆脱陈腔滥调真的很难，一旦说了一，二三四五六就会接着来，顺手得就像学会了骑自行车，忘都忘不掉。
影片到最后二十分钟的画面情节音乐每一趴都撞击在我的泪点上，很久没有看一部片子这么哭过了，温馨治愈又无敌可爱。导演怎么会想到用red panda来为青春期的叛逆以及成长的烦恼做类比，毛茸茸的让人根本无法抗拒。片子从头到尾的”母系元素”也是一个很打动人的点，角色设定和桥段设定都非常讨巧。
福瑞控怒赞，美美作为三代移民其实已经是离开华语文化圈的黄皮白芯香蕉人了，但她的母亲还有她的外婆亲戚们作为二代移民显然还保留着过去生活的影子，这里的红色小熊猫诅咒再过去是在那片土地可能是为了生存为了福佑子孙的祝福，但到了现代社会里就被当成了代际诅咒甚至是“遗传厄运”了，美美在现代文明圈子里在正值青春张扬个性的年龄时，要的是充分的自由表达，体内的红色小熊猫代表着其人格的完整性，而约束它甚至封印隔离它都是错误的，要学会和小熊猫共存，而不是让它清0消失，外婆妈妈们已经回不去了，但美美们还可以有光明的未来。好电影。
