The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 有戏中戏的感觉，非常好笑有点心酸，需要对凯奇大叔的作品有起码的了解，熟悉到场景、台词更好。总体而言是一部爆米花片，但情怀很足，各类致敬和内涵也很用心，另外，我也是真的很喜欢鞋拔子脸的😁
烂尾了 最后那个扔刀是认真的么 但凡把剧本打磨一下。。

震惊，尼古拉斯凯奇还好意思吐槽女儿品味？！我现在相信有导演和编剧是为某演员量身定制剧本了。
三星半。看完这片子的第一感想是‘凯奇不欠债了挺好’。《帕丁顿熊2》和《变脸》就是好看，正确的客观的一针见血的。概念很有趣可惜差一口气（在嗑acid那一段感到了穷），我好希望凯奇真儿子来客串一下😸😸😸说是温情版《危情十日》，emmm好吧很难反驳
来，为情怀，为那些年的岁月，干了！

爸的电影宇宙，老旧港式喜剧路子。★★☆/5.9

大概有那么三五秒钟是真诚的，剩下的时间都湮没在莫名其妙之中。
封面拍得这么飞，实际还不如妈的多重宇宙。You are so not back.
即使不是凯奇粉丝，这也是一部非常不错的动作喜剧。

和红毒蛇卖腐，还能和另一个自己卖腐……整个过程确实都很萨满式表演。谢谢没有说拉斯冯特里尔坏话
确实还可以，但也就只是还行的程度吧。故事略微俗套，但也说的过去，演技也过关，但也没有十分出彩。比起凯奇这一蹶不振的十几年，这部算是略微小小振作了一下。但要恢复之前众多经典佳作来，凯奇同志还要努力啊。
电影中的电影，演员里的演员。
因为对尼古拉斯凯奇有情结，所以开头和结尾都很感动，有点原谅这个不善管理自己人生的大男孩对演戏的炙热，希望他能在之后接到更好的符合他年龄的剧本。当然，这本身也很难，希望他不要再欠钱和大手笔花钱了。整个剧情节还是缺乏精彩度，黛米摩尔是出来打了个酱油。看完电影好希望他真的有个女儿。
但能够再看到尼古拉斯·凯奇出演正常电影也不错
真的很不错，有几个笑点确实非常好笑，一点也不尴尬，讽刺很幽默。配乐也很好，值得进影院。SXSW2022
