The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 非常喜欢巴尔扎克的原著，发现改编的电影自然还是要看的。拍得不算怠慢，但并没找到好一点的策略，也没什么新表达要说，就快节奏地复制小说情节，像是一个「2.5小时带你看巴尔扎克《幻灭》」的长视频。小地方的青年去大城市闯荡，媒体行业的光鲜与肮脏，梦碎的主题，这些一点也不过时，可以一看。
小人物的宏大叙事，内幕真多啊！不愧是巴尔扎克
我觉着吧，这部片子要和《法兰西》一起看 200年前的法国，和现在的法国，同样充满着谎言的媒体，除了钱他们什么都不需要

人类需要思考，大清都亡了百年，为啥还是会跪舔！因为大多数人仍然向往那些不劳而获的权利！
前半部ascension sociale和肤浅的复仇令人反感，幻灭的下坡路开始后才显出一定深度。男女主演技不行，只能用毫无意义的大尺度裸戏来凑。最后才发现叙事者是Nathan. Marquise d'Espard的演员是个妙人。Lousteau选角也不错，不羁又市侩，大难临头也不忘戏谑。由旁白、画面和巴尔扎克撑起来的电影。关于评论界如何鸡蛋里挑骨头的那段讽刺不错。
服装，布景，摄影都很棒。
-结构好？那就是它老套！
没有看过原著，有点羞愧。但这部电影并没有辜负巴尔扎克，成功勾起了我对于纯文学的再度热爱。声色犬马的巴黎幻影下，人物灵魂被层层剥离，最后见好就收，留给观众足够的空间去品尝这苦涩的人生余味。

媒体黑历史大起底，鸭子说这锅我不背。敬巴黎，敬巴尔扎克。可怕的，肮脏的，迷醉的，黑暗的，悸动的，暗流涌动的巴黎与十九世纪！
虽然很华丽，但拍得毫无新意，一部小说改编的电影还是需要旁白和对白推进故事的话，那我为什么不去看原作呢？
复辟时期的巴黎这个宏大的历史画卷表现得非常迷人：剧院、报纸、出版人、富商、贵族、王室之间的各种勾当，寥寥几个场景就展现地一清二楚。对话非常辛辣（应该是巴尔扎克的功劳）让人印象深刻。此外导演应该是有意加了一些指射当下的元素吸引观众。
棋子们并不知道其实是棋手，伸舒手臂主宰着自己的命运 ，棋子们并不知道严苛的规则 ，在约束着自己的意志和退进。黑夜与白天组成另一张棋盘，牢牢将棋手囚禁在了中间。上帝操纵棋手，棋手摆布棋子。上帝背后，又有哪位神祗设下尘埃、时光、梦境和苦痛的羁绊。
剧作干净的没有一点多余的水分 即使很早猜到结局也会很耐心的看下去 节奏和视听语言都很不错
等到揭露大前提，就必须要面对这个创作本身的问题。不过整体上对老式西部故事的气质把控还是挺不错的。
性的欢愉就够了，要什么爱情，而且是我不相信的那种！被丢在巴黎的乡下纯真男孩也可以谋生，女孩就只能卖肉，那个时代，男性还是比女性多了好多机会和自由！千金散尽，女友向贵妇求告，贵妇一笑，说因为他是艺术家。这也算是某种刻板印象了！真的很烦那个小嘬嘴男，想把他的嘴撕成正常。四星，一星给巴尔扎克。初中读了很多他的书，可能对法国的向往就是那时埋下的种子，可是现在看，只觉得太drama，赤贫，暴富，赤贫，诗人，贵妇，年轻女演员，爱情，肺病，投湖……呃🤔

让我想去读一下原著了～巴尔扎克系列在现今社会越来越具有警示作用。
完整性比较高，对于没看过巴尔扎克幻灭的是个普及。乱入多兰可还行hhh
